The South Dakota men’s basketball team is a Division I college basketball program that competes in the Summit League. The team is currently coached by Craig Smith and plays its home games at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Coyotes have appeared in three NCAA Tournaments. Their most recent appearance came in 2020, when they defeated Ohio in the First Four before losing to Oregon in the Round of 64.

Their most recent national champion was Seth Gross, who won the 133 lb weight class at the 2018 NCAA Championships.

Football

The South Dakota football team is a Division I college football program that competes in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The team is currently coached by Bob Nielson and plays its home games at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Coyotes have appeared in two FCS Playoffs. Their most recent appearance came in 2019, when they defeated Northern Arizona in the First Round before losing to Montana State in the Second Round.

Wrestling

The South Dakota wrestling team is a Division I college wrestling program that competes in the Big 12 Conference. The team is currently coached by Chris Bono and plays its home matches at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Coyotes have had four individual national champions and 31 All-Americans. The Coyotes have appeared in one NCAA Division I National Championships, in 2018. They had two individual national champions and seven All-Americans.

South Dakota Highschool sports

South Dakota high school sports are governed by the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

The most popular sport in South Dakota is football. The state has produced two NFL players, Joel Klatt and Dallas Clark.

Other popular sports include basketball, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling.
